Caterpillar bookshelf

Inspired by the caterpillar character from Alice in Wonderland. CDM designed and built this bookcase. The soft and organic nature of the caterpillar is offset by the hard, unfinished, industrial look of the building materials. Building materials include unfinished particle board, threaded rod, washers and nuts. Bookcase stands 58" tall and 44" wide and 14" deep. Chris DeMartino

Tintin and the bookshelves

King Ottokar’s Scepter by Hergé was originally published in France in the late 1930s. But my edition, which smells a bit musty, was published in the U.S. by Golden Press in 1959. What I like about this comic strip tale is that books and bookcases are seen throughout the story.

Inspired by a traditional Mexican toy, this playful movement is quite surprising, permitting the user to stack more than one Maroma in several different configurations.

Level

This bookshelf consists of a number of irregularly spaced rods that support several shelves at different heights. Lina has drawn her inspiration from builders’ scaffolding and the distinctive appearance of apartment block architecture. The distance between the shelves is adapted to the different sizes of paperbacks, hardback books and magazines that can be placed between the rods. The bookshelf comes in two heights and three widths. It is finished in a choice of eight standard colours and four stains (black, brown, white and red-brown). The legs are fitted with adjustable feet. Use Level as a room divider or place it against a wall in the living room at home, the office or the library, etc. Lina Nordqvist

WWW

“www” is an interpretation of the ‘shelf’ archetype. Between form and function, between space and dimension, between a not-yet and a not-anymore it creates concrete opportunities and specific associations.
Through its parts it is not only a modular system, but also a type of installation in an ever changing space. In today’s Western society, digital communication, networking and the Web 2.0 are parts of our daily life. The constant ‘real time’ connection is changing us, our environment and the perception of it. On the threshold of the post-digital society the limits of space and time are abolished. The physical dematerialization is a true consequence. The Bauhaus industrial product has become obsolete. Hybrid objects are becoming media, surfaces transform into spaces and spaces turn into unsharp gradients.
In an accelerated era full of freedom of forms and the change as a status quo I am creating an object which itself has no definite state and which is capable of interacting with the user and his environment.

Book holder

This book holder is perfect to decorate any shelf. Just choose a book with a nice cover and use it to display. It is a nice and unique decorative piece. The material in the center used for stability can also be marketed as a bookmark to keep track of the page you're on. It is very simple to manufacture. Juan Boada

Shelving chair

Almost all stacking chairs will lose a reason for their existence if they are stacked; they will become something that we want to put away. In contrast, this product is usually a shelf, and will become a chair when you need it. This chair is made of timber, plywood and paper honecomb panel. Jun Markoshi

Bookcase configurator for iPad

The BookCase Configurator application makes it easy and fun to create your perfect storage system. To get started, choose a pre-built storage system and then personalise it with new or replacement modules. Alternatively, you can start with a blank page and create your solution from scratch. Once your basic design is in place, customise it by positioning shelves and dividers where you like, adding drawers and experimenting with colours and wood varieties. Don’t forget to use the measuring tool to make sure your BookCase fits in your room. When you’ve finished, you can email your design to the nearest BookCase dealer for purchasing, or send it to family and friends to show off your designing skills.

Room for books

This wall hanging bookshelf can be placed in all different directions, either alone or in a combination of several book- shelves. The apperance of the bookshelf changes depending on how it is placed, and this also creates new opportunities of storage. My inspiration comes from collages and architecture in the shape of apartment ground plans.
